The Fellowship of the Devastated

What is The Fellowship of the Devastated?

The Fellowship of the Devastated is a book; or at least it is the dream of a book. The title is derived from an essay written by Mary Wallace just after her visit to Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day 2007, the first Memorial Day since the death of her son, Matthew, in Iraq.  You can read Mary’s story here.

The Fellowship of the Devastated will be a compilation of stories from people like Mary, who have either lost a loved one or gone through the devastation of an injury as a result of their sacrifice for the War on Terror.  We are soliciting the stories of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and co-workers and soldiers themselves that might be recovering from wounds. The book will not be a political statement of any kind and any essays with a political agenda will not be accepted. Our mission is to honor those who have sacrificed for us, as well as providing comfort, guidance, and hope to their loved ones.

The Fellowship of the Devastated will be self-published and will be available for purchase on this website, on the publisher’s website, and on such e-commerce outlets as Amazon.com. Much of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to Fisher House, an organization that provides temporary housing at military bases all over the world for families of the wounded and dying so that they may be with their loved ones at this difficult time. Additional proceeds will be donated to the Cpl. Matthew P. Wallace Scholarship Foundation.

We encourage you or someone you know to browse our website, forward the link to friends, sign our guest book, and submit a story for consideration. If you have a story to share, but cannot find the words, please email us with the details, and we will be happy to help with the translation of emotion to paper.
